The Difference Between Coding 99213 (Level 3) and 99214 (Level 4): The Patient History

Dr Walker describes the difference between coding 99213 and 99214 with regard to taking a history. Two to 3 key components are needed to code 99213 and 99214. The difference between them are the types of key components required. Because the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is not able to verify the accuracy of the facts relating to a patient encounter, we cannot be held responsible for any coding decisions that you make based on the guidance you receive from the AAP. It is your responsibility to only code for what you do during a patient encounter.
